6 Steps to Golgotha: A Lenten Devotional
Finding quality, deep, well written material for Sunday School classes, small groups or personal study is hard. Take a 6 week journey to Lent walking along the path to the hill of Golgotha where Jesus was crucified in this thoughtful 20 page devotional.
Golgotha. Golgotha is the non-Roman place name for where Jesus was crucified. It refers to a place somewhere outside the walls of Jerusalem where Jesus was executed. This devotional represents a 6 step journey to that site; one step a week over the course of Lent. My intention is to follow the question “Why?” Why would such a remarkable and widely loving person like Jesus of Nazareth be met with such violence and terror? Why was the religious institution feeling threatened? Why would people, who occupy places of power, partner with the occupiers to bring about such a tragic end for this Jesus? Why? What was at stake for them?
An Excerpt from the Devotional:
"Jesus was healing and providing restoration to broken and marginalized people. Those who followed him were growing and getting louder...And in the shadows, looking down their noses at what they perceived to be gathering trouble, were the leaders of the institution drawing problematic conclusions. “Just look. Look how all the world is ready to follow him.”
